About UsHi--I'm Mary Hawkins, the owner and founder of Heartstrings Birth. I've been married to my terrific husband for seven years, and have two wonderful boys. We are lucky enough to live near Lake Michigan in windswept Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin—2 miles from the Illinois border, an hour from both Milwaukee and Chicago (which is both my and my husband’s adult hometown). I am a proud Navy spouse, a veteran music educator, an accomplished vocalist and violinist, and a certified childbirth educator and doula with Birth Boot Camp.
I was fortunate enough to have educated friends help me begin my path toward childbirth education, and through that knowledge, applied, I was able to positively influence the 4 crucial components of an amazing birth: mother's body, baby's body, birth location, and care provider. With these 4 in the best shape I could make of them, and with support from husband, doula, and community, I have had absolutely amazing, life-affirming births. I would love for everyone to have the kind of *satisfaction* with their birth experiences that I did—no matter what their circumstances. I certified as a childbirth educator in 2016 and as a doula in 2018, inspired by my own experience taking Birth Boot Camp classes before my first birth. In the process of certifying as an instructor, I began attending others’ births—and found an unexpected calling as a supporter of families during the process of birth itself! I’m very excited to be continuing this new phase of my varied career, realizing new skills and old strengths to provide personalized and passionate doula care, as well as comprehensive and compassionate modern birth and parenting education, for those giving birth and their partners.
